At least five police personnel were killed after unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a police van in Karak district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack occurred while the officers were on routine patrol, according to officials.
District Police Officer Saud Khan confirmed that all five policemen in the vehicle died on the spot. Following the incident, a heavy police force rushed to the area, cordoned it off, and launched a search operation to track down the attackers.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, calling it highly unfortunate and deplorable, and reiterated that maintaining law and order remains the government’s top priority. Authorities have linked the rising attacks to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has intensified violence since ending its ceasefire in November 2022.
