Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a defining role in shaping India’s next phase of digital growth, said Amit Agrawal, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). He emphasized that innovation must be aligned with responsibility, transparency, and public trust as India transitions from connectivity to intelligence.
Addressing telecom and digital ministers from 11 ASEAN member states, Agrawal reaffirmed India’s commitment to ASEAN–India digital cooperation, highlighting efforts to bridge digital divides and strengthen infrastructure.
He pointed to India’s rapid digital expansion, including nationwide 4G coverage, the world’s fastest 5G rollout, rural broadband through BharatNet, and the country’s emergence as a major telecom manufacturing hub.
Agrawal also highlighted Digital Public Infrastructure platforms such as Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker, along with initiatives like Sanchar Saathi for telecom user protection. He stressed India’s readiness to collaborate with ASEAN nations on safe and trusted AI, capacity building, standards development, and practical use cases under the IndiaAI Mission.
