The Indian Army and Assam Rifles conducted a joint helicopter-borne troop insertion exercise in the strategically important Vijaynagar salient of Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh, aimed at testing rapid deployment capabilities and enhancing operational preparedness in challenging and remote terrain, defence officials said on Saturday.
The exercise, carried out on Friday, involved the swift induction of acclimatised troops into a simulated operational area to assess readiness in responding to emerging security challenges. The drill focused on speed, coordination, and precision, ensuring smooth execution under near-real operational conditions.
Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mahendra Rawat said the exercise showcased the forces’ ability to deploy troops quickly and efficiently in difficult environments. He added that participating troops demonstrated high levels of professionalism, adaptability, and combat readiness throughout the operation.
The joint drill also strengthened coordination and mutual understanding between the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles, significantly enhancing their operational reach and effectiveness. Lt. Col. Rawat noted that such exercises are vital for fine-tuning standard operating procedures, improving interoperability, and reinforcing collective response mechanisms in strategically sensitive areas.
The exercise underscores the armed forces’ continued focus on maintaining high readiness levels and seamless coordination along India’s northeastern frontier.
