Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, once seen as a proponent of cooperative water sharing, has taken a strong stance against Telangana amid escalating tensions over Krishna river projects.
Naidu has accused Telangana of launching 42 unauthorized projects on the Krishna River since the 2014 bifurcation, bypassing approvals from the Central Water Commission (CWC), Apex Council, and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). A formal complaint has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, demanding a halt to 16 new irrigation projects outlined in a September 16 Government Order.
Telangana, however, has defended its initiatives, calling the allegations politically motivated and emphasizing that the projects are aimed at drought relief and regional water management. The controversy marks a sharp shift from Naidu’s earlier cooperative stance on shared river resources and signals rising tensions between the two states over equitable water sharing.
