Chennai Super Kings Crush Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 Runs as Noor Ahmed Shines at Chepauk

Chennai: Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways with a commanding 32-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026, exposing major flaws in KKR’s batting and strategy on a tricky Chepauk surface. After a fiery start in the powerplay, CSK posted a competitive 192/5. Sanju Samson (48 off 32) and young Ayush Mhatre (38 off 17) provided early momentum, taking the team to 72 runs in the first six overs. Later, Dewald Brevis (41) and Sarfaraz Khan (23) ensured a solid finish despite KKR’s spinners slowing things down in the middle overs. In response, KKR struggled to keep up with the required rate and were restricted to 160/7 in 20 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane (28) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (27) added a steady partnership, but their cautious approach hurt the chase. The turning point came when left-arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmed delivered a match-winning spell of 3/21, dismantling KKR’s middle order. He removed Rahane, Rinku Singh, and Cameron Green in quick succession, triggering a collapse from 79/2 to 90/6. CSK bowlers Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj also made early breakthroughs, dismissing dangerous players like Finn Allen and Sunil Narine. Late efforts from Rovman Powell (31) and Ramandeep Singh (35*) came too late to change the outcome. With this defeat, KKR have now lost four of their first five matches, raising serious questions over the team’s approach under head coach Abhishek Nayar. Meanwhile, CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, look back on track with consecutive wins.
