CM Naidu Pushes for Statutory Status for Amaravati Ahead of Union Budget

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and requested that the Centre grant statutory status to Amaravati as the state capital by introducing a Bill in Parliament. Naidu emphasized that legal recognition is crucial for Andhra Pradesh’s long-term development, stability, and investor confidence. He also sought financial relief, citing the revised 60:40 Centre-State funding ratio under the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Grameen) scheme, which could burden the state. The meeting, ahead of the Union Budget 2026, covered state-related projects, welfare schemes, and ongoing development initiatives, including the Polavaram project.
