Doctors in Hyderabad Perform Delicate Surgery to Remove Air Gun Pellet From Toddler’s Eye Area

Hyderabad-based doctors at Sankara Eye Hospital successfully treated a three-year-old boy who sustained a serious facial injury after an air gun pellet accidentally entered his face and lodged close to his eye.

The incident occurred while the child was playing with his cousins, during which an air gun was accidentally discharged. The 7–8 mm pellet entered through the root of the child’s nose and migrated towards the orbital region, posing a significant risk to the eye and surrounding structures.

A specialized surgical team at Sankara Eye Hospital performed a delicate anterior orbitotomy to remove the pellet. Doctors said the procedure was critical to prevent potential complications such as vision loss, infection, or damage to vital ocular tissues.

Hospital officials confirmed that the pellet was successfully removed without any injury to the eye. The child is now stable and expected to make a full recovery, thanks to timely medical intervention.

Doctors have also cautioned parents about the dangers of air guns and stressed the importance of supervision when children are around such devices.
