Food Poisoning in Govt Schools Continues: 60 Students Fall Ill in Latest Incident

Food poisoning cases in government-run schools across Telangana continue to raise serious concerns, with 60 students falling ill in two separate incidents reported in Hyderabad on Friday.

In the first case, 44 students of the Government Primary School at Chandu Nayak Thanda in Madhapur complained of nausea and vomiting after consuming their mid-day meal. Of the 107 students who ate the meal — consisting of rice, dal and payasam supplied by an external agency — dozens fell sick shortly afterward.

Emergency services were alerted immediately, and 38 students were admitted to the Area Hospital, Kondapur, while six students, who were initially in a serious condition, were shifted to a nearby private hospital. Officials confirmed that all students are now out of danger, and uneasiness began after eating the sweet dish.

In the second incident, 16 students from the Telangana Minority Residential School, Bagh Lingampally, reportedly suffered symptoms of suspected food poisoning after dinner on Thursday night. The affected students were shifted to Government Hospital, King Koti, where doctors said one student had moderate dehydration but all others were stable.

These incidents come just weeks after multiple students from SC Residential School and College in Shaikpally, Ieeja mandal in Jogulamba Gadwal district fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after consuming jeera rice. Prior to that, around 50 students from the BC Hostel at Dharmavaram in the same district were hospitalised in another similar episode.

With food-related illnesses in government educational institutions becoming disturbingly frequent, concerns over food safety, quality monitoring, and contractor accountability are once again in sharp focus.
