Pradeep Ghadi Amonkar, the original landowner of the site where the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub operated, said he had repeatedly warned authorities about illegal constructions on the disputed property for nearly two decades. The nightclub was destroyed in a massive fire that killed 25 people.
Amonkar told PTI that he bought two plots in Arpora in 1994 and later entered into a sale agreement with Surinder Kumar Khosla in 2004. However, the agreement was cancelled within six months after Khosla allegedly failed to make the payment. Amonkar said he has been fighting a legal battle ever since, insisting that the structure was built without proper approvals.
Authorities are now investigating the fire and examining the land dispute as part of the probe.
