Hyderabad Firm Crafts 240 Teak Doors for Ayodhya Ram Mandir

Hyderabad: Visitors to the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya can soon marvel at the intricate craftsmanship adorning the temple’s doors, thresholds, and windows, from the main entrance to the sanctum sanctorum of Ram Lalla, as well as the smaller shrines spread across the 70-acre temple complex.

A total of 240 thresholds, doors, and windows were crafted by Hyderabad-based Anuradha Timber International. Over 200 highly skilled artisans from Mahabalipuram and Tamil Nadu worked tirelessly for three years to complete the project on time. The teak wood, sourced from Balharshah, Maharashtra, was carefully selected to meet traditional architectural standards.

“On the recommendations of the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun, we carried out an extensive search for premium teak wood. We finally chose 150 tons of flawless teak, transported it to Ayodhya, and set up an exclusive workshop at the temple site,” said Chadalavada Sharath Babu, Managing Partner of Anuradha Timbers.

The doors, crafted with precision and dedication, reflect the artisans’ exceptional skill. During the project, artisans adhered to strict dietary restrictions, avoiding non-vegetarian foods, to maintain ritual purity. The teak wood doors are built to last over 1,000 years, with fittings made of brass that will not rust.

Structural engineers, including Girish Shahashara Bhoje—who also worked on the Burj Khalifa—oversaw the fitting of the doors. Unlike typical 1.5-inch thick doors, the Ram Mandir doors are 4 inches thick, akin to iron strongroom doors used in banks.

Sharath Babu said, “Though several timber businesses across India attempted to craft the doors, being chosen for this sacred task is a golden opportunity and a matter of pride for Telangana. These doors now adorn one of the most important religious structures in the country.”
