Hyderabad Police Launch ‘Operation Safe School’ to Crack Down on Tobacco Sales Near Schools

In a major initiative to protect children from the harmful effects of tobacco, Hyderabad Police have launched a special अभियान titled ‘Operation Safe School’, deploying nearly 5,000 personnel across the city. The drive specifically targets the illegal sale of tobacco and nicotine products in the vicinity of schools and educational institutions. As part of the operation, police teams conducted extensive inspections and surveillance around school zones. Undercover officers were also deployed to identify vendors who were secretly selling cigarettes, gutka, and other nicotine products to minors. Authorities took strict action against several pan shop owners found violating the law. Cases have been registered under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, both of which prohibit the sale of tobacco products to minors and within a restricted radius of educational institutions.
