A Hyderabad-based study has revealed a significant rise in women in urban centres delaying motherhood beyond the age of 35. While the trend reflects changing priorities such as higher education, career growth, and financial independence, medical experts caution that delayed pregnancies are increasingly associated with health risks including gestational diabetes and thyroid disorders.
The study, titled ‘Maternal Risk Factor Stratification and Outcomes of Births at a Tertiary Referral Centre in India’, conducted by Hyderabad doctors and published by Springer on December 20, 2025, highlights a major shift in reproductive choices among urban women and underscores the need for greater awareness of age-related pregnancy risks.
