India has secured the hosting rights for the Asian Rifle/Pistol Championship 2027, which will be held in New Delhi and will offer eight quota places for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This marks a historic milestone for Indian shooting sports, as it will be the first time the country hosts two Olympic qualifying shooting events in the same Olympic cycle.
In addition to the Asian Championship, Delhi will also host the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) from April 21 to 30, 2027, which will offer 12 Olympic quota places. Together, these two major events will provide Indian shooters with a significant opportunity to secure Olympic berths on home soil.
The hosting rights were confirmed by the Asian Shooting Confederation in an official communication to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president Kalikesh Singh Deo. NRAI officials described the achievement as a proud moment for the nation and a reflection of the growing global confidence in India’s ability to organise world-class sporting events.
NRAI Secretary General Pawankumar Singh said the decision highlights the rising stature of Indian shooting on the global stage and expressed hope that Indian athletes would maximise the opportunity to secure the highest possible number of Olympic quotas for the LA 2028 Games.
