IndiGo Hit with ₹58.75 Crore Tax Penalty as DGCA Dismisses Four Inspectors

Low-cost carrier IndiGo has been hit with a ₹58.75 crore GST penalty for the 2020–21 financial year amid escalating operational disruptions, the airline said on Friday. The tax penalty, issued by the Additional Commissioner of CGST, Delhi South Commissionerate, includes both GST demand and penalty.

Meanwhile, the DGCA has dismissed four flight inspectors responsible for monitoring IndiGo’s operational and safety standards, following widespread flight cancellations and scrutiny over inadequate planning.

To monitor the situation closely, the DGCA has deployed two special oversight teams at IndiGo’s Gurugram office. One team is reviewing fleet utilisation, crew deployment, training, and flight cancellations due to crew shortages. The second team is assessing the impact on passengers, including reimbursements, punctuality, luggage handling, and cancellation management.

With hundreds of cancellations affecting tens of thousands of travellers nationwide, the airline remains under strict regulatory observation.
