K. T. Rama Rao Warns Centre Against Reducing Southern States’ Voice in Parliament

Hyderabad: K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, has cautioned the Central government against any move to reduce the representation of southern States in Parliament during the proposed delimitation exercise. He warned that such a step could trigger a massive public movement across South India, as it would undermine democratic values and suppress the political voice of progressive States. Rama Rao stated that southern States, which have performed strongly in economic growth and population control, should not be penalised by reducing their parliamentary representation. “We are proud Indians and representatives of the best-performing States. Any move to weaken our voice is against democratic principles,” he said. Emphasising the crucial role of South India in the country’s development, he made it clear that leaders from the region would not remain silent if their representation is diluted in Parliament. He urged the Centre to proceed cautiously and engage in consultations with all stakeholders before taking any decision on delimitation. “We hope wisdom prevails and Delhi listens,” he added. The issue of delimitation has sparked concerns among southern States, with leaders fearing that changes in representation could alter the balance of political power in the country.
