Kerala police have registered a case against Congress leader N. Subarahmanian of Karuvattoor for allegedly sharing an AI-generated image linking Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan with Unnikrishnan Potty, an accused in the Sabarimala gold loss case. Subarahmanian is a member of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Political Affairs Committee.
According to the FIR filed by Chevayoor police, the accused shared a photograph on social media depicting the Chief Minister alongside the accused, accompanied by a caption questioning their alleged relationship. Preliminary police verification revealed that the image was fabricated using artificial intelligence.
The case has been registered under Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause a riot, and Section 120(o) of the Kerala Police Act for causing annoyance through communication. Police are also investigating others who shared similar images and are attempting to trace the origin of the AI-generated photograph.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) clarified that the image circulating on social media is fake and was created using artificial intelligence.
