A massive fire broke out just after midnight at a kite-manufacturing godown located in the Mangalhat area of Hyderabad. The warehouse, which stored large quantities of ready-to-sell kites in advance of the festive season, was quickly engulfed in flames, but thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.
Firefighters from the city fire-service department were dispatched promptly and brought the blaze under control after intense operations. Officials noted that the presence of dry kite paper, colourful ribbons and large volumes of stored merchandise contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Despite that, the timely response helped avoid any loss of life or major injuries.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, including possible electrical short-circuit or smouldering materials igniting the stock. They are also assessing the extent of property damage and whether safety norms—such as fire-exits, clearance around storage racks, and ambient ventilation—were being followed at the godown. Clean-up operations are currently underway, and surrounding premises have been secured to prevent any further hazards.
Local police and municipal officials have urged adjacent commercial units in the area to conduct fire-safety audits and ensure that storage of inflammable materials is in compliance with regulations, especially with several festivals approaching and large-scale production in many small warehouses. The incident underscores the fire-risk posed by densely-packed storage of combustible items in industrial neighbourhoods like Mangalhat.
