N. Chandrababu Naidu Launches India’s First Quantum Testbeds in Amaravati on World Quantum Day

Amaravati: In a landmark step towards technological advancement, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated India’s first quantum reference facilities in Amaravati, marking a major milestone on World Quantum Day. The Chief Minister launched the ‘1S Open Access Quantum Facility’ at SRM University AP and the ‘1Q Quantum Facility’ at Medha Towers. These advanced quantum testbeds will enable testing, validation, and certification of quantum computing hardware and components. With this development, Andhra Pradesh becomes the first state in India to establish a dedicated Quantum Test Reference Facility, positioning Amaravati as a growing hub for quantum technology innovation. The facilities operate at ultra-low temperatures nearing absolute zero (−273°C), essential for quantum computing systems. The 1S facility is designed to support academic research, while the 1Q facility focuses on industrial applications and device testing. The initiative is aligned with India’s National Quantum Mission and received participation from scientists, IIT experts, and industry leaders. Speaking at the event, Naidu described the launch as the beginning of a “new quantum era,” highlighting the importance of cutting-edge technology in shaping the future. He also acknowledged the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in advancing the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative. Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood emphasized that the facilities would boost India’s self-reliance in quantum technology and strengthen indigenous manufacturing capabilities. The Amaravati Quantum Reference Facility (AQRF) is expected to serve researchers, students, and companies, accelerating innovation in quantum computing and allied technologies such as cryogenics and atomic systems. With this achievement, Amaravati is set to emerge as a key national hub for both artificial intelligence and quantum technologies.
