Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday announced a massive USD 17.5-billion investment in India, aimed at expanding AI and data-centre infrastructure across the country. The plan includes a new Hyderabad cloud region by 2026 and is part of Microsoft’s strategy to support India’s AI-first future.
Speaking after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nadella highlighted the company’s focus on sovereign cloud offerings aligned with India’s data-protection laws, emphasizing cybersecurity, resilience, and compliance.
This marks Microsoft’s third major AI-driven investment in India in the past two months, underscoring the country’s growing importance as a hub for technology and innovation. Nadella expressed excitement about the data-centre capacity being set up and reiterated Microsoft’s commitment to strengthening India’s digital infrastructure.
