Osmania University has strengthened journalism education with the inauguration of the Sarwat Hussain Digital Media Centre at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Arts College campus. The centre is equipped with state-of-the-art digital media production facilities, including two high-end cameras and a customised Apple Studio computer system.
The digital equipment, valued at nearly Rs. 20 lakh, was donated by Vidya Bhandarker in memory of her late husband, Sarwat Hussain, an alumnus of the department. Hussain completed his Bachelor and Master of Communication and Journalism at the university between 1987 and 1989 and went on to build a distinguished career with ICRISAT and the World Bank.
The new facility aims to provide students with hands-on training in modern digital journalism, enhancing practical learning and preparing them for evolving media platforms. The initiative also reflects the spirit of alumni giving back to their alma mater, strengthening academic infrastructure at Osmania University.
