New York Assemblywoman Condemns Lynching of Hindu Youth in Bangladesh, Calls for Global Action

Washington: Indian-American New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar has strongly condemned the mob lynching of 25-year-old Hindu man Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh, warning that the killing reflects a wider pattern of violence and persecution against religious minorities in the country.

In a statement, Rajkumar said she was “deeply disturbed by the ongoing violence against Bangladesh’s Hindu minority,” describing Das’s killing as a brutal example of targeted mob violence. According to reports, Das was attacked by a mob, beaten, set ablaze, and his body was later found on a highway. Authorities have reportedly arrested 12 people in connection with the incident.

Calling the attack “horrific,” Rajkumar urged global solidarity for human rights, justice, and religious freedom, saying such violence impacts communities far beyond Bangladesh’s borders. She cited data from the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, which recorded 2,442 incidents of violence against minorities and over 150 temples vandalised between August 2024 and July 2025.

Rajkumar said these figures highlight a climate of fear and insecurity for minority communities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh. Representing a diverse district in Queens, New York, she reiterated her solidarity with Bangladesh’s Hindu community and emphasized the need to protect religious freedom worldwide.

Her statement comes amid growing concern among diaspora groups and human rights advocates over reports of increasing violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh.
