NITI Aayog CEO optimistic on bilateral trade agreement with US

NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam has expressed optimism about finalizing a bilateral trade agreement (BTA) between India and the United States in the near future. He emphasized that both nations are committed to reaching a mutually beneficial deal, with ongoing negotiations aimed at reducing tariffs and non-tariff barriers. Subrahmanyam highlighted the importance of policy reforms in India, advocating for the reduction of tariffs and the removal of market barriers to enhance manufacturing competitiveness and attract investment

Despite recent U.S. tariff hikes on Indian goods, Subrahmanyam noted that there has been no immediate impact on trade flows. He indicated that exports are expected to remain stable through the upcoming holiday season, but warned that prolonged unresolved issues could pose challenges by mid-2026. The NITI Aayog CEO's comments suggest a strategic shift towards liberalizing trade policies to bolster India's integration into the global economy and strengthen economic ties with key partners like the U.S.
