The Delhi High Court has directed social media platforms to take action within seven days on Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s plea seeking protection of his personality rights.
The order covers issues related to AI-generated videos, impersonation, fake associations, and unauthorized use of his name and images across platforms like Google, Meta and various e-commerce sites.
The court instructed that Kalyan’s representation be treated as a formal complaint under the IT (Intermediaries Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021. Social media intermediaries have also been asked to inform him if they have any reservations regarding the links shared.
Kalyan has been given 48 hours to provide URLs of the content he wants taken down. The matter will be heard again on December 22.
Several public figures, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn, Nagarjuna, and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, have recently approached the court seeking similar protection of their personality and publicity rights.
