A dramatic rescue operation unfolded on Monday evening at the Narinja Project, near Zaheerabad, where the rural police saved a woman and her two children from an apparent suicide attempt. The woman, identified as Ammapuram Nagarani of Burthipadu village, was seen by local residents behaving suspiciously close to the water body and leaving with her children in tow. They immediately informed authorities, prompting swift action.
Officers from the Zaheerabad Rural Police arrived at the project site and managed to bring Nagarani and her children to safety before any tragic outcome could occur. They were taken to the police station, where counselling was provided to Nagarani and her husband, Santosh Reddy. After the intervention, the family was handed over to their relatives.
While the exact motive behind the woman’s drastic step was not publicly disclosed, the incident comes at the close of the festive period and has triggered conversations around mental-health support in rural areas. The successful rescue underscores the importance of community vigilance and timely response by law-enforcement agencies in averting potential tragedies.
Authorities have indicated that follow-up support will be extended to the family, involving both local policing and social-welfare branches, to ensure the underlying issues are addressed and a recurrence is prevented. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for stronger mental-health outreach, especially in remote or semi-rural communities.
