Indian chess legend and FIDE Vice President Viswanathan Anand has said that the World Chess Championship could be hosted in Chennai if R Praggnanandhaa qualifies from the Candidates Tournament to challenge reigning world champion D Gukesh.
Calling a potential all-Indian showdown “emotionally charged,” Anand noted that both young grandmasters have been mentored by him and come from the same chess ecosystem. He recalled that Chennai last hosted the World Championship in 2013, when he faced Magnus Carlsen.
The dates and venue for the upcoming World Championship are yet to be officially announced.
