Shimla Doctor Suspended After Viral Video Shows Assault on Patient at IGMC

Shimla: A doctor at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla has been suspended indefinitely after a video showing him assaulting a patient inside a hospital ward went viral on social media, according to news agency ANI.

Following the incident, the Himachal Pradesh government and hospital administration constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the matter. The doctor has been directed to report to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Shimla headquarters, until further orders.

Speaking to ANI, Naresh Dashta, a relative of the patient, said the victim was Arjun Pawar, a resident of Cheta village in the Kupi area of Chaupal. He alleged that Arjun had visited IGMC for an endoscopy procedure and was admitted as an in-patient.

According to the family, after the procedure, the patient complained of chest-related issues and was advised to rest for two hours in the Pulmonary Department, during which the alleged assault took place.

The incident has triggered widespread outrage, with authorities assuring strict action after completion of the probe.
