South Central Railway Warns Against Kite Flying Near Tracks After Electrocution Incidents

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has issued a strong public warning cautioning people against flying kites near railway tracks and premises, citing serious electrocution risks.

According to SCR officials, several incidents were reported during the previous Sankranti festival season, where individuals suffered severe electric shocks and, in some cases, lost their lives after kite strings came into contact with high-voltage overhead electric lines.

Railway authorities pointed out that the use of Chinese-imported kite threads, which are often metallic or chemically treated, significantly increases the danger as these materials conduct electricity. When such threads get entangled with 25 kV overhead electric traction lines, they pose a grave threat to human life and can also damage critical railway electrical infrastructure.

Officials warned that damage to overhead equipment can lead to train disruptions, delays, and safety risks for both passengers and railway staff.

The South Central Railway has appealed to the public to strictly avoid kite flying near railway tracks, stations, yards, and other railway installations, urging citizens to prioritise safety and prevent avoidable accidents.
