South Coast Railway Zone Announced with Vizag as HQ | Big Boost for Andhra Pradesh

The Central Government has officially announced the formation of the South Coast Railway Zone, marking a major development for Andhra Pradesh. As per the latest gazette notification, the new railway zone will have its headquarters in Visakhapatnam and will come into effect from June 1, 2026. The South Coast Railway Zone will include key divisions such as Guntakal, Guntur, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam. These divisions have been reorganized from existing zones like the South Central Railway and East Coast Railway. This long-pending demand dates back to the state’s bifurcation in 2014. The project gained momentum after the government led by N. Chandrababu Naidu took office in 2024. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the zonal headquarters in 2025, accelerating the administrative process. With this move, railway operations in the region are expected to improve, boosting connectivity, infrastructure, and economic growth across Andhra Pradesh.
