Speaker Clears Another MLA in Defection Case, Eight of Ten MLAs Now Free of Charges

In a significant development in the ongoing defection मामलों (cases), Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Tuesday dismissed the disqualification petition against Jagtial MLA Sanjay, citing lack of sufficient evidence to prove defection from BRS to the ruling Congress. With this decision, eight out of the 10 MLAs accused of defecting have now been cleared of all charges.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) had earlier approached the Speaker seeking disqualification of 10 MLAs who were alleged to have switched allegiance to the Congress party. Alleging delays in the proceedings, BRS moved the Supreme Court, which directed the Speaker to expedite the inquiry and submit a status report at the earliest.

As part of the ongoing hearings, Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari has been summoned to appear before the Speaker, following a petition filed by BRS MLA KP Vivekanand. Meanwhile, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender has already been questioned, with further proceedings scheduled for February 18, considering the ongoing municipal elections.

The case continues to draw political attention, as the decisions could significantly impact the political balance in the Telangana Assembly.
