Tata Advanced Systems, Lockheed Martin Announce New Defence MRO Facility for C-130J Operations in India
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and US defence major Lockheed Martin have announced the establishment of a dedicated Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India to support the operations of the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft.
The facility, which will cater to India’s fleet as well as potential regional customers, marks a significant boost to the country’s defence aviation ecosystem. It aims to enhance operational readiness, reduce turnaround time, and strengthen indigenous capabilities in line with the government's ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
According to the companies, the MRO hub will offer comprehensive services including heavy maintenance, component repairs, and future upgrade capabilities for the C-130J, a globally deployed tactical airlifter used for transport, disaster relief, and special operations.
The new centre is expected to position India as a strategic support base for the Super Hercules in the Indo-Pacific region, reducing dependence on overseas facilities and enabling cost-effective lifecycle support for operators.
Officials from TASL and Lockheed Martin said the collaboration represents a deepening of their long-standing partnership and reaffirms the commitment to building advanced aerospace and defence infrastructure within India.
Further details on the location, timelines, and operational readiness of the MRO facility are expected to be announced soon.
