Adilabad, Telangana: Despite the chilly weather, voters formed long queues to cast their ballots as polling progressed smoothly for 439 panchayats in the first phase across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Thursday.
Polling began in 133 panchayats of Adilabad district, 81 villages in Mancherial, 119 panchayats in Nirmal, and 106 villages in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. A total of 1,656 contestants are in the fray for the post of Sarpanch, while 5,695 candidates are contesting in 1,865 wards across the four districts.
Election officials reported smooth operations at polling stations, with voters showing enthusiasm despite the cold weather. The first-phase polling marks a significant step in the Telangana Gram Panchayat elections, reflecting active participation at the grassroots level.
