Telangana High Court Orders HYDRAA to Remove Signboard from Private Plot Within 24 Hours

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed HYDRAA to remove within 24 hours a signboard erected on a private plot in Saheb Nagar Kalan and restrained the agency from interfering with the petitioners' possession without following due process of law. Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy passed the interim order while hearing a writ petition filed by T. Jhansi Rani and T. Ajay, who alleged that HYDRAA had illegally installed the signboard on their 160-square-yard plot despite an earlier High Court order that had set aside the revocation of their building permission and a demolition notice. The petitioners argued that HYDRAA acted without issuing any notice or conducting an inquiry to establish any alleged encroachment on public land. They maintained that the construction was carried out in accordance with the sanctioned building plan. The court observed that its earlier order had allowed authorities to initiate fresh proceedings only in accordance with the law if any encroachment was found. Prima facie finding HYDRAA's action contrary to that order, Justice Vijaysen Reddy directed the agency to remove the signboard within 24 hours. The High Court also restrained HYDRAA, GHMC and its Deputy Commissioner from interfering with the petitioners' possession of the property without following due legal process. The matter has been posted for further hearing on August 11.
