Thailand to Review Luthra Brothers’ Case, Considering Legal and Human Rights Issues

Phuket: Thai authorities detained Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra on December 11 after intervention by the Indian mission. The brothers, co-owners of the Goa nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane, where 25 people died in a fire on December 6, are now facing legal proceedings in Bangkok.

The Indian government has revoked their passports, submitted a detailed dossier alleging their involvement, and formally requested deportation. Meanwhile, Thai officials are examining multiple legal angles, including human rights considerations, as the brothers entered Thailand on valid travel documents that were later cancelled.

Senior advocate Javed Mir, along with advocate Vaibhav Suri, represents the Luthras in Bangkok. Proceedings are expected before a local court, though the timeline remains unclear. Five managers and staff members in Goa have already been arrested in connection with the fire.
