Three Women Farm Labourers Killed, 14 Injured as Lorry Rams Jeep in Mancherial

In a tragic road accident, three women farm labourers from Maharashtra were killed and 14 others injured after a speeding coal-laden lorry rammed into a stationary jeep at Indaram crossroads on the Mancherial–Hyderabad State Highway in the early hours of Monday.

The accident occurred between 3.30 am and 4 am when the jeep, carrying farm labourers, was parked on the roadside as some passengers stopped briefly for urination. A lorry, allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner, crashed into the jeep, resulting in the deaths of three women on the spot.

The deceased were identified as Meena Latelwar (45), Neelubai Manre (60), and Imlibai Sayyam (45), all residents of different villages in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. Fourteen others, most of them women, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Government General Hospital in Mancherial for treatment.

Police said that 23 migrant farm labourers, along with their children, were travelling to Karimnagar district for agricultural work at the time of the mishap. They were carrying rations and had stopped briefly at the crossroads when the accident occurred.

Migrant labourers from neighbouring states are frequently employed by farmers in Telangana for activities such as cotton harvesting, paddy plantation, and other agricultural operations, as they camp near farmlands during the season.

A case has been registered against Banoth Ramesh, the lorry driver from Mahbubabad district, and an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
