Unable to bear the shock of his son’s death, the father also ended his life. The woman, who lost both her husband and father-in-law, is crying inconsolably. Being nine months pregnant, her pain is beyond words. Having lost the only male support, the family has been left helpless and pushed onto the streets.
The incident took place in Bethalapuram village of Vemuru mandal in Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh. Atluri Sunil, a tractor driver by profession, earned his livelihood by transporting goods. As usual, he went to a farmer’s field carrying fertilizer bags on his tractor. While unloading the bags in the field, he accidentally came in contact with low-hanging electric wires and suffered a fatal electric shock. Despite immediate efforts to save him, his life could not be saved.
Following the news of Sunil’s death, the entire village was plunged into grief. Sunil had been married just a year ago, and his wife is now nine months pregnant. Demanding support for the grieving family, locals staged a protest by blocking the Tenali–Vemuru road.
In response, the electricity department and the concerned farmer came forward to provide financial assistance. Only after this assurance did Sunil’s father, Venkayya, give his consent by signing the documents to shift the body for post-mortem examination.
