Trump Warns Netflix–Warner Bros. Deal May Pose Market Share Concerns

President Donald Trump has voiced strong concerns over Netflix’s massive US$72 billion agreement to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, warning that the merger could lead to serious market share imbalances in the entertainment industry.

Speaking on Sunday at the Kennedy Center Honours red carpet, Trump said the deal “could be a problem” due to the size and influence the combined entity would hold. He noted that he would be closely involved in the regulatory review process and stressed that such a large-scale consolidation could reshape the media landscape in ways that may limit competition.

Trump’s remarks come amid growing scrutiny of major mergers in the entertainment and tech sectors, with regulators expected to examine whether Netflix’s acquisition could create an unfair advantage or reduce choices for consumers and creators.

Industry experts say the deal, if approved, would redefine streaming dominance by giving Netflix access to Warner Bros.’ vast film and television library, including major franchises and global distribution networks.

Further details and regulatory evaluations are expected in the coming weeks.
