UPI Drives 25% Surge in India’s Digital Payments, Strengthens Global Leadership

India’s digital payments ecosystem recorded a robust 25 per cent year-on-year growth in April, underlining the country’s rapid shift towards a cashless economy. Total transactions surged to 22.35 billion, reflecting increased adoption across urban and rural regions alike. At the centre of this growth is the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which continues to dominate the digital payments landscape. Its ease of use, instant transfer capabilities and interoperability have made it the preferred mode of payment for millions of users, from small vendors to large enterprises.
