The United States Department of Justice has announced a review into whether certain documents related to the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein were mistakenly withheld from public release. The scrutiny comes after multiple media organizations reported missing FBI interview summaries, including uncorroborated allegations involving former US President Donald Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing.
The department said the review was prompted after journalists and public officials flagged potential gaps in documents previously released as part of a large disclosure of Epstein-related records. Some of the missing files reportedly involve interviews conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2019 with a woman who made allegations connected to Epstein.
Officials stated that if any materials are found to have been improperly withheld and fall under laws requiring disclosure, they will be released in accordance with legal guidelines. The case has also drawn attention due to concerns about transparency and earlier issues with redactions, which reportedly exposed sensitive information of victims.
Epstein, who faced federal sex trafficking charges, died in 2019 while in custody awaiting trial. Authorities continue to face scrutiny over document handling and disclosure practices related to the investigation.
