YSRCP Chief Demands CBI Probe into Joji Nagar Demolition in Vijayawada

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the demolition of houses in Joji Nagar, Vijayawada, alleging large-scale irregularities and misuse of power.

Speaking to the media after meeting the affected residents, Jagan said the demolitions were carried out with heavy police presence despite the matter being sub judice before the Supreme Court and the residents having interim relief until December 31. He expressed solidarity with the affected families and assured them of full legal support.

Jagan alleged that fake documents were created during the earlier tenure of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, including the registration of a bogus housing society with a backdated claim from 2016, to facilitate the transfer of prime land to private interests.

Holding Chandrababu Naidu, Nara Lokesh, the local Member of Parliament, and a Jana Sena corporator responsible, Jagan said houses belonging to 42 families spread across 2.17 acres of land—valued at nearly Rs 150 crore—were illegally demolished. He noted that the residents had secured all necessary permissions and were regularly repaying housing loans, raising serious questions about the legality of the demolition.

Questioning the government’s actions, Jagan asked how official permissions were granted if the residents were allegedly occupying the land illegally. He stated that the families had been living in the area for over 25 years and that the demolition violated judicial relief granted to them.

He further alleged that land grabbing through fabricated litigation has become a recurring practice in the state, with TDP leaders and cadres identifying disputed lands and engineering legal disputes to seize valuable properties.

Reiterating his demand for a CBI inquiry, Jagan said only an independent investigation could uncover the truth behind the demolition. He assured the Joji Nagar residents that the issue would be resolved and those responsible held accountable once the YSRCP returns to power.
