Meta to give teens

Meta is introducing enhanced parental controls for teen interactions with AI chatbots on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, following criticism over inappropriate or flirty AI conversations with minors. Starting early next year in select countries, parents will be able to disable one-on-one chats, block specific AI bots, and monitor general topics discussed by their children, helping ensure safer and age-appropriate interactions. The measures are part of Meta’s efforts to align teen-facing AI content with PG-13 guidelines and prevent harmful conversations related to sensitive topics.

In addition to AI-specific controls, Meta is implementing content moderation systems to restrict teen exposure to strong language, risky behaviors, and other mature themes on Instagram. Accounts that repeatedly share age-inappropriate material will face interaction limits with teen users. These initiatives aim to provide parents with greater oversight, foster a safer digital environment, and address growing concerns from advocacy groups about teen safety online.
