Cambodia Says Thai Fighter Jets Bomb Border Village

Cambodian officials have accused Thailand of carrying out airstrikes on border villages, claiming Thai F-16 fighter jets dropped nearly 40 bombs in Banteay Meanchey province. Cambodian Defence Ministry spokesperson Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata said the bombardment targeted Chok Chey village, destroying civilian homes and public infrastructure. She also alleged that Thai artillery fire hit residential areas in Poipet Municipality.

The accusations come amid renewed clashes along the Thailand–Cambodia border, rooted in long-standing territorial disputes dating back to the colonial era. Meanwhile, the United States has urged restraint. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called for the full implementation of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, offering US support to facilitate dialogue and restore stability between the two nations.

Thailand has acknowledged ongoing border talks, stating that negotiations have entered a second day and that the intensity of clashes has decreased. Despite a joint peace declaration signed at the ASEAN summit in October, violence has resurfaced, raising concerns over regional stability.
