The Government of India has launched a new national initiative — the National One Health Mission — with a budget of ₹383 crore to strengthen the country’s ability to prevent and control zoonotic diseases, which spread from animals to humans.
This mission aims to bring together experts from human health, animal health, and environmental sectors to coordinate research, surveillance, and response efforts. It will focus on tackling diseases like avian influenza, Nipah virus, brucellosis, and rabies, which pose significant threats to public health and the economy.
By promoting the “One Health” approach, India joins global efforts to detect and control infectious diseases at their source — preventing future pandemics and ensuring better health for both people and animals.
