Forest officials in Kerala’s Wayanad district have trapped an adult male tiger suspected of killing a 60-year-old tribal man earlier this week. The incident occurred on December 20 at Devaragattu in the Vandikkadavu area when the victim and his sister had entered the forest to collect firewood.
After confirming the tiger’s presence, forest authorities initially installed two cage traps. As the animal could not be captured, two more cages were later placed in the forest. The tiger was finally trapped in one of the cages early Friday morning at Vandikkadavu.
Officials said the tiger is around 14 years old and is weak and unable to hunt properly, which may have forced it to stray into human settlements. The animal will be shifted to a forest station for a detailed medical examination and is likely to be moved to a rehabilitation centre in the district for protection and care.
