IndiGo launches Vijayawada–Varanasi–Kolkata flight services

Vijayawada: IndiGo on Thursday launched new flight services connecting Vijayawada with Varanasi and Kolkata, strengthening air connectivity from Andhra Pradesh’s capital region. The inaugural services were launched at Vijayawada International Airport in the presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, who joined virtually, and Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry. The new services will operate three days a week — Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. On the inaugural day, 89 passengers arrived in Vijayawada from Varanasi, while 129 passengers flew from Vijayawada to Varanasi. Flight 6E 6501 will depart Kolkata at 2.15 pm, reach Varanasi at 3.25 pm and arrive in Vijayawada at 5.50 pm. The return flight, 6E 6502, will leave Vijayawada at 6.20 pm and reach Kolkata at 10.15 pm via Varanasi. Naidu said the Centre was working to further expand Vijayawada’s air connectivity, with services to Pune, Ahmedabad and Kochi expected to be added soon. He also announced plans for hub-and-spoke operations, which would allow passengers to complete customs and immigration formalities at Vijayawada before connecting to international flights through major hub airports. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath and Gannavaram MLA Yarlagadda Venkata Rao attended the inaugural event and presented boarding passes to passengers. Leaders also sought early commencement of flights to Dubai and Kochi to meet growing passenger demand.
