A Shiv Ling near the Draksharamam temple in BR Ambedkar Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh was allegedly vandalised, following which police apprehended a suspect and launched an investigation, officials said on Wednesday.
Police said they received information about the incident on Tuesday and rushed to the spot, where the Shiv Ling located near the Koneru (stepped water tank) was found damaged. Based on inputs from local residents and CCTV footage from the area, police identified and apprehended the accused. A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
Ramachandrapuram DSP B. Raghuveer confirmed the incident and said special teams were formed to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu spoke to Endowments Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy and sought details of the incident. The minister informed the Chief Minister that special police teams had been constituted to probe the case.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure strict punishment for those responsible and instructed them to closely monitor the progress of the investigation.
