The Sankranti vacation for schools in Telangana, originally scheduled from January 11–15, 2026, may be extended following a request from teacher unions.
As January 10 falls on a Saturday holiday and festival holidays on January 15–16 are observed for Sankranti and Kanuma, unions have suggested reopening schools on January 19 instead of immediately after the festivals.
Teacher unions cited parental concerns about sending children back to school immediately after the celebrations, urging the government to extend the break for a smoother transition.
The School Education Department is reportedly considering the proposal, which, if approved, will give students a longer holiday while addressing parental and logistical concerns.
