Cybercrime Cases See Slight Rise in Karimnagar

Karimnagar Police Commissionerate has reported a slight increase in cybercrime cases in 2025, even as the overall crime rate dropped by 16.84 percent. According to the annual crime report, 276 cybercrime cases were registered this year, up from 208 in 2024. Police highlighted that cyber criminals are using increasingly sophisticated methods to cheat the public and steal money.

Through the NCRP portal, 2,437 petitions were received, leading to 280 FIRs. Using call detail records (CDRs), 205 cases were detected, and Rs 1.10 crore was refunded to victims in 352 cases.

Meanwhile, conventional crimes under IPC and SLL declined from 6,164 cases in 2024 to 5,126 cases in 2025. Categories such as burglary, murder, rape, kidnapping, crime against women, suicides, and missing cases remained largely unchanged.

Speaking at a press conference, Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam said 2025 was largely incident-free. Female personnel were deployed across wings to ensure equal focus on women’s safety. The commissionerate secured second place in the state under the QR code-based citizen feedback system, receiving 209 positive feedbacks out of 210.

For the upcoming New Year celebrations, police will establish 44 checkpoints, including 30 in Karimnagar town, to monitor traffic and conduct drunk driving tests. SHE teams will patrol bus stands and other sensitive areas to curb eve-teasing. Entry to the Lower Manair Dam bund and the cable bridge will be restricted, and DJ sound systems and firecrackers will be prohibited. Special attention will be given to drug usage at farmhouses and guest houses, with tests conducted using drug detection kits.
