Heavy overnight rains in Telangana’s Saidapur mandal of Karimnagar district caused significant flooding, leaving the Telangana Model School in Somaram village inundated. Water from overflowing tanks and streams — including Nyalacheruvu, Akunuru Cheruvu, and Thummala Cheruvu — entered the school campus and hostel premises, trapping students inside. Panic spread among parents and locals as visuals showed ankle- to waist-deep water filling the corridors and rooms of the school. Many of the hostel students were unable to exit the building safely due to the rising water levels and had to wait for help.
Responding to the situation, local residents and school staff worked together to rescue the stranded students and shift them to safer locations. Parents rushed to the school early in the morning upon hearing of the flooding and expressed concern over the lack of proper drainage infrastructure around the school. Officials later declared a holiday for the school and began assessing the damage. The incident has raised questions about the placement of schools in low-lying or flood-prone areas and highlighted the need for better planning and preparedness during the monsoon season in rural parts of the state.
