Charminar to get facelift.

The historic Charminar area in Hyderabad is set to get a major upgrade, with plans underway for a “Visitors’ Plaza” along with supporting amenities aimed at improving the experience for both tourists and locals. Initiated by MP Asaduddin Owaisi and to be executed by GHMC, the project includes a public plaza, a tourist information cell, multipurpose restrooms, drinking water stations, baby-changing facilities, sanitary napkin dispensers, ramps for the physically-challenged, and other conveniences. The plaza is designed like a stepped amphitheater, allowing people to climb or sit with a pleasing view of the monument.

The location chosen for this plaza is opposite Charminar on Sardar Mahal Road, an area that had earlier deteriorated into a garbage dump and open-air toilet. The space is expected to cover around 2,100 to 2,500 square feet, at an estimated cost of about ₹70-75 lakh. The project aims for completion in six months. However, the plan has met with delays and objections: the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has raised concerns over construction in the buffer zone around the monument, and the site remains cluttered by debris, hindering fast progress.
