Hyderabad: The Department of Commerce, Osmania University, organised a high-impact investor awareness programme for postgraduate students at the University College of Commerce and Business Management (UCC&BM). The initiative aimed at strengthening financial literacy among students and was conducted by a SEBI-registered expert.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Mumbai-based G-Institutions and Consultancy, a SEBI-registered entity, and was designed to equip MCom and MCom (IS) students with practical knowledge to navigate modern financial markets.
The session highlighted the core philosophy of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) — “an educated investor is a protected investor” — underscoring the importance of informed and responsible investment decisions.
Dr Sarika Lohana, a financial markets expert from Mumbai, led an intensive two-hour session focusing on equity and derivatives. She explained the transition from traditional savings to strategic investments, stressing the importance of investing in the context of rising inflation and long-term financial planning.
Dr Lohana also provided a comprehensive overview of market mechanisms and regulatory frameworks, detailing SEBI’s role in overseeing stock exchanges, depository participants, and clearing corporations. Using simple and practical examples, she helped students understand the real-world functioning of the securities market and stock exchanges.
The programme was well received by students, offering valuable insights into smart investment practices, market regulation, and financial decision-making.
